Whai muri i tēnā kapa i tēnā kapa, mā Petera Hakiwai e whakamārama te wāhi ki te reo i ngā kaiwhakawā e arohaehae ana i te takoto me te rere o te kupu. Celebrate Māori Language Week and bring the whole whānau to witness and enjoy the first and second place National Secondary Schools’ Kapa Haka Competition champions of 2019 from the Wellington to Otaki region: Ngā Matarau o Te Puāwaitanga (students from Te Kura Māori o Porirua) and Ngā Taiohi o Te Rāwhiti o Te Ūpoko o te Ika (Students from Wellington East Girls' College, Rongotai College and Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Ngā Mokopuna).
These rangatahi are not only amazing performers but their dedication and commitment to te reo Māori is an inspiration to us all. Watch their stunning performances from the regional competition where the two qualified groups represent our region at the National Secondary Schools’ Kapa Haka competition to be held in Auckland in 2020.
The performances will conclude with a short kōrero with Petera Hakiwai about what judges look for when judging te reo in kapa haka and what the roopu consider when composing their bracket. There is no better way to celebrate Māori Language Week than watching these future kapa haka stars in action.
